Introduction to Wind Turbine Rotor Aerodynamics
This workshop -- presented by UMass Wind Energy Center - Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering -- provides an introduction to wind turbine rotor aerodynamics, with an emphasis on blade element momentum theory.
Who should take this workshop
It is designed for scientists and engineers with an interest in wind energy, wind turbine technology, and aerodynamics. Those seeking professional continuing education credits (CEUs) towards license renewal, career growth, and practical knowledge will benefit.
In this workshop, you will...
- Understand the basic fluid dynamic model of a wind turbine rotor
- Understand 2D airfoil behavior
- Specify blade element momentum theory equations
- Design a wind turbine rotor using BEM equations and analyze the rotor performance
20% discounts will automatically be applied to registrations of 3 or more.
Please allow 48 hours to receive instructions on how to setup access to your course. Responses will arrive on weekdays. For other inquiries, please contact lackner@umass.edu
Modeling Wind Turbines with OpenFAST Code
This workshop -- presented by UMass Wind Energy Center - Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering -- provides an in-depth knowledge of the OpenFAST tool for simulating the coupled dynamic response of wind turbines.
Who should take this workshop
It is designed for anyone, particularly scientists and engineers with an interest in modeling wind turbines with the most well-known open source turbine modeling software, OpenFAST, developed through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Those seeking professional continuing education credits (CEUs) towards license renewal, career growth, and practical knowledge will benefit.
In this workshop, you will...
- Learn how the OpenFAST framework is organized
- Understand how to manipulate the individual modules in OpenFAST (and FASTv8) to suit your simulation needs
- Learn how to debug and postprocess simulation results to get the most out of the software
20% discounts will automatically be applied to registrations of 3 or more.
Please allow 48 hours to receive instructions on how to setup access to your course. Responses will arrive on weekdays. For other inquiries, please contact lackner@umass.edu
Workshop Continuing Education Unit (One CEU)
Once you finish a UMass Wind Energy Center workshop, we are able to provide you with official electronic documentation equivalent to one CEU, in order to maintain a professional license or certification.
When purchasing a CEU, it will be emailed to you in a printable format from our University Without Walls (UWW) office. This paperwork is typically required by states, provinces or countries to offer proof of activity completion and attendance in our workshop. The fee covers UWW registration and administration.
Since our workshops involve a self-study activity with online training modules that relate to compliance, each meets the requirement to qualify for one CEU. One CEU equals ten contact hours or professional development hours (PDH) of participation in organized continuing education classes and/or training conducted by a qualified instructor.
